Elemental Evil Player’s Companion
What can you find in this new supplement?
New race options for characters include the wilden, a plantlike people with an extraordinary connection to nature. Two variant races are also offered: elves that have been touched by elemental power and gain unusual features from their exposure, and halflings that have been mutated by the power of the jungle that they might better defend their homes.
A new concept called a “circle” allows a spellcaster to dramatically increase her powers with specific sacrifices, and each element has its own set of circles.
Players will find 23 new elemental spells that can be used for battling or summoning creatures from the elements. Additionally, more than 20 new feats and a score of new magic items allow players to harness the power of the elements for their quest.
Finally, two adventures await those heroes bold enough to confront the dangers that lie within!
What is the player’s companion?
The inside front cover describes it as “a resource for Dungeon Masters and Players alike to unleash powerful elemental characters upon the multiverse.
It includes new character options, new spells, some races that are more connected to the elements than existing ones, and two adventures that will pit players against elemental creatures or give them an opportunity to harness the power of the elements themselves.
What is included in this book?
This book contains variant races (elemental elves and halflings), feats, spells, magic items, circle abilities, playable monsters (like elementals), advice on how to build an appropriate adventuring party based on your choice of race/class combinations, stat blocks for the monsters, and two adventures.
Why do you like it?
As someone who DM’s this game system I’m always looking for ways to shake things up. This book goes a long way towards making certain races feel more unique as well as having a greater variety of interesting character options from which players can build their characters. In addition to the well thought-out new character options, I especially like that the book includes several variant racial traits for existing races.
The first one I really enjoyed was adding a halfling ability to resist poison damage in exchange for having -5′ speed. There are several interesting feats as well including one that allows you to use your reaction to turn into stone or water and then back again.
On top of that, several new spells are included that can be used for summoning elementals or harnessing the power of the elements to use as a weapon. Two adventures from respected authors Mike Shea and Greg Marks round out this great addition to the player’s companion lineup.
The history of elemental evil
The Elemental Evil Player’s Companion is officially one of the books that are part of Wizards’ Adventurer’s League storyline. The elemental evil storyline started in D&D season 1, when players had to go on quests to stop certain cults from summoning primordials.
The second season was about stopping Orcus from gathering the shards of the shard of evil, while also dealing with a cult trying to summon Tiamat. The third season deals with elemental evil and cults trying to free four ancient elementals that were imprisoned by giants long ago.
